Starting with a short meeting (10/15 minutes) with both parent and child/teen to gather relevant background information and to discuss common goals and presenting issues. The therapist will then excuse the parent and meet with the child/teen on a one-on-one basis.

The sessions are designed with interactive activities and evidence-based practices to help children and adolescents understand and manage their emotions, develop coping skills, and improve relationships with peers and family.

Communication serves as the basis in therapy, in adult therapy it is basic talk therapy, but children and teens have different ways to communicate their issues and it is important to acknowledge the fact that they do not sometimes have the language to communicate their issues. The therapist will assess the adolescents needs and might incorporate different ways of communications such as play/games etc. to facilitate the therapeutic process.

In order for children and adolescents to feel heard, safe and at ease when talking to a therapist, they need to know that not everything will be reported back to their parents/carer. Your therapist will discuss this issue in the first session.
